WHAT IS TOXICOLOGY (DRUG SCREEN) TEST?

Toxicology drug screening is normally done with a urine test via immunoassay for several drugs. Positive results are confirmed by gas chromatography, and additional blood testing may be requested. Common drugs included in this test are acetaminophen, alcohol, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine metabolite, hypnotics, methadone, methaqualone, narcotics, opiates, organic bases, phencyclidine, phenothiazines, phenytoins, salicylates, and tricyclic antidepressants. Drugs NOT detected by this rapid test method include clonidine, calcium-channel blockers, beta-adrenergic blockers, and albuterol.
