WHAT IS SPECIFIC GRAVITY TEST?

Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of urine compared to the density of an equal volume of water, which has a defined density of 1.000. Specific gravity is dependent on the number, size, and weight of urine solutes (chloride, creatinine, glucose, phosphates, protein, sodium, sulfates, urea, uric acid) dissolved in solvent. Specific gravity evaluates the kidneys’ ability to regulate fluid balance as well as the hydration status of the body.
