WHAT IS PHENOTHIAZINES TEST?

WHAT IS PHENOTHIAZINES TEST?

A group of drugs with antipsychotic, antihistaminic, antipruritic, and antiemetic effects that act centrally on the reticular activating system and peripherally with anticholinergic and alpha-adrenergic blocking effects. Phenothiazines are widely distributed in body tissues, metabolized by the liver, and excreted by the kidney, with a half-life of 20-40 hours. Correlation of therapeutic effectiveness with blood levels is poor. This test is mainly used to determine whether or not the phenothiazine is being taken or for the diagnosis of possible overdose. Fatalities from large doses are rare.
