WHAT IS PHENOTHIAZINES TEST?
A group of drugs with antipsychotic, antihistaminic, antipruritic, and antiemetic effects that act centrally on the reticular activating system and peripherally with anticholinergic and alpha-adrenergic blocking effects. Phenothiazines are widely distributed in body tissues, metabolized by the liver, and excreted by the kidney, with a half-life of 20-40 hours. Correlation of therapeutic effectiveness with blood levels is poor. This test is mainly used to determine whether or not the phenothiazine is being taken or for the diagnosis of a possible overdose. Fatalities from large doses are rare.
