Meprobamate is a sedative-hypnotic used to treat anxiety disorders. It is a central nervous system depressant that is metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine and faeces. Meprobamate is a metabolite of carisoprodol (Soma), a muscle relaxant that some consider a suspect drug of abuse.
