WHAT IS HISTOPLASMOSIS SEROLOGY TEST?

Histoplasma capsulatum is a saprobic soil fungus that resides in the intestines of birds and bats and causes a common respiratory, noncommunicable infection called “histoplasmosis.” H. capsulatum spores are inhaled, enter the bloodstream, and spread through the reticuloendothelial system, causing breathing difficulty and enlargement of the spleen and lymph nodes. The antibody titers are usually elevated 6 weeks after infection, last weeks or months, and decline quickly, though they may remain elevated for up to 1 year.
