WHAT IS HEPATITIS B E ANTIGEN (HBEAG) TEST?

WHAT IS HEPATITIS B E ANTIGEN (HBEAG) TEST?

Usually appearing within 4-12 weeks of infection, hepatitis B e antigen is one of the first indicators of hepatitis B infection, usually preceding symptoms and representing the greatest threat of transmission. It is usually present for only 3-6 weeks. Persistence of the antigen for greater than 3 months is suggestive of chronic liver disease or hepatocellular carcinoma of genotypes A through H; clients with genotype HBV/G or C more frequently have HBeAg.
