WHAT IS HEMOGLOBIN A2 TEST?

Hemoglobin A2 is a normally present haemoglobin component constituting 2%-3% of the normally present haemoglobin. Found in 2%-3% of Mauritanian populations and 1.5% worldwide population are carriers of 13-thalassemia. This test is used to help differentiate haemoglobin abnormalities. The classic phenotype of heterozygous 13-thalassemia is increased Hb A2, RBC, and decreased MCV and MCH.
