WHAT IS BODY FLUID (AMYLASE) TEST?

WHAT IS BODY FLUID (AMYLASE) TEST?

Amylase is produced in large quantities by the pancreas, salivary glands, and certain malignant tumours. It is produced in lesser quantities by the fallopian tubes and lungs. Amylase from the pancreas and salivary glands is normally contained in the gastrointestinal tract. The presence of a significant amount of amylase in a body fluid specimen indicates a pathologic process.
