WHAT IS ALBUMIN TEST?

Albumin is one of the two main protein factions of blood. It functions in maintaining oncotic pressure and in the transportation of bilirubin, fatty acids, drugs, hormones, and other substances that are insoluble in water. Protein is normally almost completely reabsorbed by the kidneys and undetectable in the urine. Therefore the presence of detectable albumin, or protein, in urine is indicative of abnormal renal function.
