Acid phosphatase is one of a group of enzymes located primarily in the prostate gland and prostatic secretions. Smaller amounts are found in the bone marrow, spleen, liver, kidneys, and blood components such as erythrocytes and platelets. Isoenzymes of acid phosphatase include prostatic isoenzyme and erythrocytic isoenzyme. Used in the diagnosis of and monitoring for treatment response of prostate cancer.
