WHAT IS 5′-NUCLEOTIDASE (FIVE PRIME NUCLEOTIDASE) TEST?

A plasma membrane enzyme that is an isozyme of alkaline phosphatase that is found in hepatic parenchyma and bile ductal cells. This test aids differential diagnosis between bone and liver cancer because 5′-nucleotidase is rarely elevated in bone cancer. When coupled with elevated alkaline phosphatase, the levels are indicative of liver metastasis.
